When you purchase any goods or services
you will get a receipt. It will say what you bought, how much it cost
and where you got it.
It is very important
that you keep your receipt (especially for higher priced items)
in case you need to return the goods or get them repaired (all
goods carry a minimum 12 months legal guarantee so keep your receipt
for at least 12 months).
You can usually still keep your consumer
rights without a receipt, but it will be much easier for you
if you can produce valid proof of purchase.
If you are self-employed
then it is vital that you retain all receipts relating to your
business purchases. If you are VAT registered and want to reclaim
the VAT, ensure that the seller's VAT number is included. If you
are unsure you can ask for a full VAT receipt (the supplier cannot
refuse by law).
