Case study:
Jenny is 21 years old and seven months pregnant. Her boyfriend
left her when she found out she was pregnant. She has not had
any contact with her family for over 5 years. She receives
£48.00
per week income support. From this she must pay for food, clothes,
travel, bills and socialising.
She applied to the social fund for her
maternity payment but the application was refused because she
put her application in too early. Her flat is cold and damp
and she hopes she will be moved by the time the baby is born.
